Progress South Central – supporting delivery of HE in FE
Posted on: Wednesday, 3rd February 2010
Towards the end of 2009 we invited staff involved in the delivery of HE at our partner colleges to complete a short online questionnaire to assess current and potential demand for professional development to support excellence in the delivery of, and support for, Higher Education in Further Education Colleges. 56 responses were received, from 16 of Progress South Central’s 22 partner colleges. Over half the respondents (57%) indicated that they were satisfied with the opportunities they currently have for relevant CPD.
Most respondents indicated that they had undertaken some form of CPD relevant to their HE role, including:
- In-house training events
- Conferences
- Self-study
The most popular forms of CPD requested were:
- The opportunity to update their subject knowledge
- More opportunity for scholarly activity such as personal research
- Attending conferences
- Enhancing teaching skills for HE
By far the most important factor identified, which would make a difference for staff to be able to undertake CPD, was having time allocated within work time.
Full results of the survey are still being analysed. Once this is complete we intend to offer funded support for relevant CPD.
We have already made a start. We are offering a free conference on 2nd March 2010 at
